“The Light of Christ”
Sunday Mornings at 9:00am & 11:00am
December 3 – December 24, 2017
The gospel writer of John (1:9) says: “The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world”, as he spoke of Jesus Christ.
Jesus speaks of himself as light when he says: “I am the light of the world…” (John 8:12), though sometimes we overlook that Jesus calls us “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), too.
This Sunday, December 3, is the first Sunday of Advent. After the Call to Worship, the candle of hope will be lit, followed on the next three Sundays by the candles of peace, joy, love and the Christ candle.
As the candle of hope is lit, God calls us to wait and serve Christ with hope inside of the darkness – attentive to the light that is Jesus Christ.
Our Advent Sermon Series is entitled: “The Light of Christ.” This season and through the seasons of Epiphany, Lent, and Easter, I will be sharing some brief reflections inspired by our beautiful stained-glass windows in the Church, created by Judson Studios.
